After making headlines for slamming England's cricket culture in his autobiography, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen is all set to resume his career in South Africa's Ram Slam tournament.
Under fire at his adopted home, Pietersen has been holidaying in South Africa and is believed to have been in talks with Cricket South Africa. "We will most likely be making an announcement next week once contracts have been finalized," a CSA official was quoted as saying by UK's Mirror. Pietersen'c contract with Surrey ended this August and he has since been a free agent. With a comeback to the England national side highly improbable, Ram Slam may help the 34-year-old prove his mettle. ('Pietersen Ouster Loss for International Cricket' )
Pietersen - born in Pietermaritzburg in South Africa - has been making news in England due to his controversial autobiography in which he slammed the cricket culture in England's national cricket team. While he said that former coach Andy Flower used fear to mentor the side, he also took a dig at former teammate Matt Prior.
While most experts and former cricketers have not backed his views, Pietersen has maintained that what he has written is the truth.
History though is likely to judge Pietersen for his runs and not words. Axed from the national side earlier this year, the cricketer has scored 23 Test and nine ODI tons. His vast experience is expected to add glamour to Ram Slam T20 event which has former South Africa captain Graeme Smith as its competition director.
Several international stars are expected to feature in the event with Smith saying that he is determined to improve the quality of imports in the tournament which started in 2007-08.
