Bangladesh all-rounder and former skipper Mohammad Ashraful's eight-year ban for his involvement in match-fixing has been reduced to five years by the Bangladesh Cricket Board's disciplinary panel on Monday.
Ashraful had appealed to the disciplinary panel chief, Justice Mohammad Abdur Rashid, in July, asking that the ban he received a month earlier, for his involvement in match and spot-fixing in the 2013 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, be reduced.
In an official statement, the BCB stated that the five-year ban is dated from August 13,2013 and the last two years are suspended subject to his participation in a BCB or ICC anti-corruption education programme.
Ashraful was earlier banned for eight years in June 2013 after being found guilty of fixing matches for Dhaka Gladiators in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Ashraful had immediately apologised for his wrong-doing and had said, "I should have not done this injustice to the nation. I feel guilty.I would only say 'Please all forgive me, my conduct was improper."
