London: England pace bowler Stuart Broad and wicketkeeper Matt Prior are set to start their rehabilitation programmes after both players underwent operations to cure long-standing injuries.

The England and Wales Cricket Board issued an update on Broad and Prior's progress following their surgery on Thursday. (Also read: Cook gets Moeen Ali's backing as England ODI captain)

Following surgery on the patella tendon in his knee, Broad, 28, is hoping to be ready in time to join England's World Cup preparations in a tri-series against hosts Australia and India in January.

Prior, 32, has missed much of this season's international schedule, having decided after England's Test defeat against India at Lord's in July that he was no longer able to compete at the highest level until his left Achilles problem was addressed.

Thursday evening's press release read: "The ECB medical team today confirmed that England and Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad has undergone an operation on his right patella tendon.

"Broad will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme ahead of the tri-series against Australia and India early next year.

"England and Sussex wicketkeeper Matt Prior has undergone surgery on his left Achilles and will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme with England and Sussex over the winter period."
