Justice (retd.) Mukul Mudgal said that the committee met police investigators in Chennai and will take a final call Thursday on whether they need more time from the Supreme Court to file a final report.
New Delhi: The Mukul Mudgal committee on Wednesday met police investigators from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai in the Tamil Nadu capital before submitting what could be an interim report to the Supreme Court on the spot fixing and betting scandal that hit the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Justice (retd.) Mukul Mudgal said that the committee met the investigators in Chennai and will take a final call Thursday on whether they need more time from the Supreme Court to file a final report. The Supreme Court had set a deadline of August-end for submitting the report.
"Today we met police officials from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. We will also have a second round of meetings on Thursday before deciding whether we need more time or not," Mudgal told IANS from Chennai. (Srinivasan, Meiyappan Questioned by Mudgal Committee)
Delhi Police were the first to bust the racket after they arrested three Rajasthan Royals cricketers - S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - in a midnight raid in Mumbai. Mumbai police also unearthed betting links after they arrested Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief N. Last week, the committee had released a statement saying that they have no intention of interrogating any Indian cricketer in England since it may disturb the struggling team's concentration. However, the committee is likely to seek more time as they want to grill some of the cricketers after they come back, and in the meanwhile submit an interim report. (Ganguly Joins Mudgal Committee )
