Three youngsters died after a rain-soaked boundary wall of the Sylhet Stadium collapsed in the wee hours of Tuesday. Sylhet hosted matches during the ICC World Twenty20 earlier this year.

According to reports in the Bangladesh media, the victims were sleeping in a tin-shed house when the wall came crashing down due to heavy rain since Monday. Two of those killed were 11-year-old while the third was 17. All were children of the nearby Lakatura tea garden.

The Sylhet Stadium was one of three World T20 venues and hosted 30 matches, including 24 in the women's championship. Sylhet was in the news after work on the stadium's renovation was delayed last year.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board was under pressure as ICC inspectors visited Sylhet several times. The stadium was reconfirmed as a venue last November.
