Injured Corey Anderson may miss most of IPL, lose half his salary

Corey Anderson is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks after he injured his finger during ICC World Twenty20. His 'temporary' absence may force Mumbai Indians to re-think their IPL 7 plans.

Maverick Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson may miss a significant part of the Indian Premier League - starting April 16 - after he injured his hand during the ICC World Twenty20 tournament. According to reports, the 23-year-old - bought by Mumbai Indians - may lose half his auction price which would amount to USD 866,000.

Anderson dislocated a finger during New Zealand's Group 1 match against Sri Lanka. He was rushed to the hospital and while the finger was treated, Anderson also received stitches for a cut. New Zealand's stuff.co.nz has quoted Kiwi coach Mike Hesson as saying that the cricketer would take between four and six weeks to make a full recovery.

The seventh edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in three phases with the final scheduled to be held on June 1. Defending champions Mumbai Indians are being considered one of the favourites and the team looked to have got its composition right. With injury to Anderson though, a re-think may be on the cards while the player himself may hope for a comeback sometime May. With 80 per-cent of his salary subject to availability and the remaining on whether he is picked in the XI, Anderson would also hope that coach John Wright has enough faith to play him when he joins the team.
