Afghanistan set 255-run target for B'desh

NEW DELHI: Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari put up a solid 164-run partnership to lead Afghanistan to 254/6 against Bangladesh in their Asia Cup match in Fatullah on Saturday.

Scorecard

Both Stanikzai and Shenwari slammed impressive half-centuries in their gritty partnership to revive the innings after Afghanistan struggled earlier in their innings as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Stanikzai (90*) hit 6 smashing boundaries and 3 scintillating sixes in his innings while Shenwari (81) hit 10 boundaries and a single six in his innings that saw Afghanistan score a staggering 107 runs off the last 10 overs.

Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain struck early to give Afghanistan first blow as he dismissed opener Mohammad Shahzad. Hossain justified Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim's decision to field first in their must-win match.

Arafat Sunny then jolted Afghanistan innings with his double strike removing Karim Sadiq and Najibullah Zadran in successive overs to leave them reeling at 43/3 in 13.4 overs.

Soon after, Asghar Stanikzai and Nawroz Mangal tried to revive Afghanistan innings and put on 31-run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter got run-out by Naeem Islam.

Spinner Mominul Haque then joined the party to increase Afghanistan woes when he scalped Mohammad Nabi to strengthen Bangladesh's grip.

However, Stanikzai and Shenwari then resurrected the Afghanistan innings with their stupendous batting thereby powering the ICC associate side to reach 254/6 in their stipulated 50 overs.
