Acknowledging this, the national selectors reposed faith in most of the lot when they met to select the Asia Cup and World T20 Championship teams in Bangalore on Tuesday.
In fact, only two - veteran Yuvraj Singh and medium-pacer Mohit Sharma - are among the cricketers who did not tour New Zealand and both have been picked for the World T20 event.
All others have been in either the Test or ODI squads on the tour of New Zealand. The selectors obviously expect the Indian cricketers, who have struggled in alien conditions in New Zealand, to perform to optimum levels in the more hospitable terrain of Bangladesh.
Appreciating that pitches in Bangladesh could be more spin friendly during the 40 days on tour, the five selectors - Sandeep Patil (chairman), Roger Binny, Vikram Rathore, Saba Karim and Rajinder Singh Hans - chose at least four players who bowl spin in R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh.
Batsmen, who have been brought up on a diet of spin on pitches that are brown, low and slow have also found favour.
Stuart Binny, who was scarcely used by skipper MS Dhoni in New Zealand, has been rewarded for his fine showing in Irani Cup. But Ishant Sharma, who did fairly well in the first Test last week, has been dropped from both teams while Suresh Raina, like Yuvraj and Mohit, is in the squad only for the World T20.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ambati Rayudu have got the nod for the longer version Asia Cup which is to be staged from February 25 to March 7. The World T20 will be played from March 16 to April 6.
