Rahim lifts B'desh to 279 against India

NEW DELHI: Powered by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim's astonishing century (117 off 113), Bangladesh set a solid 280-run target for India in their Asia Cup match in Fatullah on Wednesday.

Rahim's second one-day international hundred that came in 104 balls was studded with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes and helped Bangladesh dominate proceedings against India.

Rahim also put up a splendid 133-run partnership with Anamul Haque that saw Haque slam 5 smashing boundaries and 3 scintillating sixes in his 77-run innings.

The Rahim-Haque duo smashed the ball to all parts of the ground to steady the innings after being in a precarious position earlier in the match.

However, pacer Varun Aaron gave India a crucial breakthrough when he got the better of Haque's stumps just before the pacer was taken off the attack for bowling his second waist-high delivery.

Ravichandran Ashwin had earlier struck with his first ball of the match by having Mominul Haque stumped by Dinesh Karthik just after Mohammed Shami gave India the first breakthrough by dismissing Shamsur Rahman in the sixth over.

The breakthrough came after Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat.

Just before Rahim reached his ton, Mohammad Shami struck to dismiss Naeem Islam (14) who before being dismissed put up a quick-fire 49-run stand with his skipper.
