Probe panel indicts Gurunath Meiyappan

NEW DELHI: BCCI chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law and former Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan was on Monday indicted of charges of betting and spot-fixing by the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee.

The committee, formed by the Supreme Court to inquire into spot-fixing and illegal betting in the Indian Premier League last year, had submitted its report earlier on Monday.

It remains to be seen whether the findings of the report is likely to influence the IPL auction in Bangalore on February 12.

The Mudgal committee was formed last year after the Bihar association filed a petition against the verdict of the two-member inquiry committee -- comprising former judges of the Madras high Court, Justice T Jayarama Chouta and Justice R Balasubramanian -- formed by BCCI.

The Mudgal committee spent four months travelling through the country, interacting with players, journalists, team owners, police, anti-corruption unit personnel and various other stakeholders. "We spoke to a wide array of personalities in society," Justice Mudgal told TOI.

"Including top cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly and others. We have recorded every bit of information that we have received."
