India resume first innings on Day Three

NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane resumed the Indian first innings on the third day of the first Test against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

Scorecard

The second day of the Test belonged to New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who took the Kiwis past 500 with scintillating double hundred that was punctuated by remarkable patience and grit.

McCullum was also merciless on anything that was loose and Indians offered plenty of that.

The Indian batting was woeful to begin with. They lost two wickets in the first over itself with Trent Boult striking first to remove woefully out of form opener Shikhar Dhawan for a duck on the second ball of the Indian innings.

Boult struck again four balls later to dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara for 1.

Virat Kohli (4) then fell to Tim Southee to a debatable decision to leave India tottering at 10/3.

Murali Vijay and Sharma did steady the ship a little bit but once Vijay fell, it was the turn of Rahane to join Sharma at the crease.

The two seem to be going well for now but there isn't a lot of batting to come lower down the order. India once again find themselves in a position of saving this Test match as winning from here looks highly unlikely.

The second day's play was called off early due to bad light with India reeling at 130/4, trailing by a massive 373 runs.
