The selectors have kept faith with the 13 players who took part in the recent ODI series against West Indies which ended in a 2-2 draw. Injured batsman Colin Munro was the only player to miss out, according to reports. The selectors have not named any replacement for him.
Batsman Kane Williamson and seamer Kyle Mills are back in the group after being out of the two T20 internationals against West Indies. Left-arm seamer Trent Boult was one contender on the fringes but he is still troubled by a thigh strain.
Milne made one appearance in the West Indies ODI series, in the rain-reduced match in Queenstown, but the 21-year-old fast bowler is rated highly and made everyone take notice with a 153kmh delivery in the first T20 game against West Indies last Saturday. All-rounders Corey Anderson and Jimmy Neesham are also in the pace bowling mix.
Bruce Edgar, general manager, national selection, was reported as saying that players were being rewarded for a number of strong performances against West Indies.
"We know we'll have to play out of our skins, and outmatch India player for player to be competitive against such a powerful side," Edgar said. "But we showed against West Indies that we can play extremely well on our day and are capable of beating any side."
New Zealand squad: Brendon McCullum (captain), Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi, Jimmy Neesham, Nathan McCullum, Tim Southee, Kyle Mills, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne.
