Big role awaits Sachin Tendulkar in MI

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians are planning to offer a big role to the now retired Sachin Tendulkar. According to insiders, the exact role is yet to be fleshed out, but it should be something like a mentor's role but with additional responsibilities.

Sources said Sachin would have the final say after the team owners in cricket matters.

Interestingly, last year Mumbai Indians had signed former India Test captain Anil Kumble as their mentor. "The Mumbai Indians are already discussing the issue and will talk to Tendulkar as well before deciding his role," a source close to the development told TOI on Sunday.

Tendulkar, who retired from IPL last year and played his last match for Mumbai in the Champions League final against Rajasthan Royals, is also willing to accept whatever role is offered to him.

Not only does Sachin have a huge fan-following across the world even after his retirement from international cricket, the Mumbai franchisee also wants him on board for his vast knowledge of the game.

"He is someone who would play a role on a par with the director of a team, the source added. Tendulkar's former teammate Rahul Dravid is the new mentor of Rajasthan Royals from this IPL season.
