NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has moved the Supreme Court on Thursday to stop former IPL chief Lalit Modi from becoming the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
Modi contested the RCA elections on December 19, citing the Rajasthan Sports Act, 2005, and his faction is expected to win the polls when the apex court declares the results next week.
BCCI's petition stated that Modi's association with RCA will affect the image of the cricket board. The petition also says that Modi's nomination was wrong because RCA has rejected BCCI's objections to his candidature.
The Supreme Court will hear the case on January 6.
In September 2013, a life-ban was imposed on Modi by the BCCI for financial irregularities when he was the IPL commissioner.
