2nd T20I: Ramdin rescues WI innings

WELLINGTON: A swashbuckling 55 from Denesh Ramdin lifted the West Indies to 159/5 against New Zealand in the second and final Twenty20 international on Wednesday.

Scorecard

The West Indies, who won the toss and elected to bat first, appeared to have lost their way when reduced to 67/4 in the 11th over before Ramdin joined Andre Fletcher in the middle.

They put on 70 for the fifth wicket which ended when Fletcher (40) opted to sacrifice himself after he and Ramdin ended up at the same end in a running mix up.

Ramdin carried on through to the end to be unbeaten on 55 off 31 balls in an innings which included three sixes and three fours.

It was a good recovery for the West Indies who lost their first wicket in the fourth over when promising New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne removed Johnson Charles for seven.

Milne also had Chadwick Walton caught behind for a three-ball duck to finish with figures of two for 22.

Mitchell McClenaghan, back in the side with Tim Southee rested, had Lendl Simmons caught in the deep for 29 and Nathan McCullum bowled Dwayne Bravo for 12.

New Zealand won the first Twenty20 in Auckland on Saturday by an overwhelming 81 runs.
