Plenty of action and a good dose of romance - the Little Master ending his 'on the field' love story with his beloved cricket - made the series a superhit.
The euphoria that was generated over Sachin's retirement from international cricket made the fans forget the insipid fare dished out by the visitors in the two Test series.
Just like the film buffs enjoy the hero bashing up the mean-looking but spineless villains on the celluloid screen, the cricket fans lapped up every minute of entertainment that the three-day Tests provided.
They wanted their hero to end his career on a high and that's exactly what happened. The only sour note in the entire script was that the Little Master missed out on a century in his last Test.
The West Indians, on their part, seemed to have decided that they would do nothing to mar Sachin's party. The lack of intent and substance on the part of the visiting side was a blot on the Caribbean cricket.
The once mighty nation which had terrified other cricketing countries is no longer able to put up a meaningful fight. But for the fans all that didn't matter.
Will things be any different in the City of Destiny when the teams clash in the second match on Sunday? There may not be too much of a twist in the script.
With opener Chris Gayle out of the series due to an injury, the West Indies do not seem to have enough firepower in their batting to trouble the Indians.
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are in such superb touch this season that the visitors may not be able to stop the Indian juggernaut.
