Having slammed a brutal unbeaten 115 to help India level the seven-match series 2-2 in Nagpur earlier this week, Kohli, joined captain MS Dhoni in asking the game's governing body to re-think the new rules which is turning out to be a nightmare for the bowlers.
"In batting-friendly conditions, it is hard for the bowlers to contain the batsmen. When you have five fielders inside the circle, the part-time bowler who used to be a big weapon in one-day cricket is redundant.
Hence, the rule should be looked into as far as keeping five fielders (inside the circle) is concerned," Kohli said in the pre-match press conference here. "It is ICC's decision to give us the rule. So I can't comment more," he added.
Asked about the Indian bowlers' morale after being punished by the Aussie batsmen, Kohli said the bowlers' lack of confidence can hamper team's prospects. "In one-day cricket in the sub-continent, obviously your batting will always be your strength. But more often than not, you win matches because of your bowling.
But if your bowlers aren't confident, it becomes very difficult, especially for the captain. If you're conceding two fours an over, the bowler doesn't understand where to bowl and the captain doesn't know what field to set," he said.
Explaining further, he said, "Yuvraj bowled so well for us in so many games with four fielders inside the circle. Now, none of the teams can use part-time bowlers properly because of the fifth fielder.
In conditions, which are batting-friendly, it is hard for the captain to contain those runs," The Australians, however, feel that the teams will get hang of the rules in due course of time.
"The more you play (with the new rules) you will get more trends and patterns to see what is a good target," said wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin.
On his form, Kohli said he was pleased with his batting and hoped to deliver in the deciding rubber also. "It's turned out to be a great series for our team in many ways; Personally, my form has been pleasing so far but there's one more game to go. Hopefully I can do it again," he said.
