Rohit can take Tendulkar's spot: Bailey

BANGALORE: Australian captain George Bailey said Rohit Sharma was flourishing at the top of the order and can be the best contender to replace the retiring Sachin Tendulkar.

"It was an extraordinary innings," said Bailey. "Rohit batted beautifully. He wasn't actually that quick early on, but got busier after he got to his 100. He's flourishing at the top of the order.

He'd certainly be one who is in the mix for the spot that will open up after the great man - Sachin Tendulkar -- departs in a couple of Tests," said Bailey after the 57-run defeat in the final ODI on Saturday.

Praising James Faulkner, who scored 116 to bolster Australia's chase, Bailey said the 23-year-old Tasmanian has a bright future. "It was pretty extraordinary.

I don't know how many ODI games he's played but he almost leads our bowling attack. He bowls in Power Plays. He bowls at the start. He bowls at the death. He loves that responsibility. Teams will certainly fear him. The competitiveness he brings is something you love playing with," the Aussie captain said.

Talking about the near 400-run chases and the new rule of five fielders inside the circle during non-Power Plays, Bailey said: "What I understand is the rules were changed because people felt that the game was getting boring. I'm not sure people watching today would find it boring, would they."
