David Warner scores first Ashes ton

BRISBANE (Australia): Opening batsman David Warner scored his first Ashes Test century as Australia's lead over England climbed at the Gabba on Saturday.

Scorecard

The feisty left-hander raised his fourth Test ton with three runs off part-time spinner Joe Root a half-hour after lunch on the third day of the first Ashes Test.

Warner jumped into the air and waved his bat around the Gabba, saluting his hundred.

He smashed Stuart Broad into the sight screen on the full for six but three balls later Broad enticed him to feather a catch to wicketkeeper Matt Prior on drinks in the middle session.

Warner scored 124 off 154 balls and he shared in a 158-run partnership with Michael Clarke in 131 minutes.

His ton against England followed earlier Test centuries against New Zealand (123 not out), India (180) and South Africa (119).
