2nd Test: Windies in trouble on Day One

NEW DELHI: West Indies lost their fifth wicket when Bhuvneshwar Kumar had Shivnarine Chanderpaul caught by R Ashwin at first slip on the first day of Sachin Tendulkar's last Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Scorecard | Sachin Tendulkar Timeline

Pragyan Ojha took his second wicket when he had Marlon Samuels caught by Murali Vijay at first slip.

Ojha dismissed Kieran Powell in the third over after lunch by having him caught by Shikhar Dhawan at forward short leg.

Put in to bat, the West Indies were 93/2 in their first innings at the end of the first session.

R Ashwin had Darren Bravo caught behind by captain MS Dhoni as the West Indies lost their second wicket.

Mohammed Shami struck in the sixth over when he had opener Chris Gayle caught by Rohit Sharma at gully.

Shami bowled a back of a length delivery that was angled right at Gayle's body, there was a little away movement and Gayle poked at it, with very little feet movement, got the shoulder of the bat and the ball lobbed to the left of gully where Rohit took a good catch.

The breakthrough came after Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl.

India are unchanged from the last Test, while the West Indies have brought in Narsingh Deonarine and Shannon Gabriel in place of Sheldon Cottrell and Veerasammy Permaul.

There is some moisture in the wicket and it has a nice covering of green grass. The fast bowlers will get ample movement with the new ball and it's going to be tough for the batsmen.

The most enduring phenomenon in modern cricket and India's biggest sporting icon, Tendulkar is all set for an epic curtain call.

For once, an individual would be the focus even though it is a clash of two teams and why not, given that the individual in question is a man who successfully transformed from a prodigal talent to a living legend in 24 glorious years.

Tendulkar has been synonymous with the game in India for more than two decades and held in awe and admiration all over the cricket-playing world.

Having won the first Test by an innings and 51 runs, India and their seniormost statesman will be focussed on inflicting another humiliating defeat on a mediocre Caribbean outfit.

But the scores and statistics will certainly take backseat for the next few days as a nation gets ready to bid farewell to arguably its greatest and most revered sporting icon.
