Tendulkar's curtain call at Wankhede

MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar's final wish, to play his 200th Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, has been officially granted. The historic venue will host the Mumbai maestro's farewell match against West Indies from November 14-18.

The programmes and fixtures committee of the BCCI, headed by Rajeev Shukla, met at the board's office on Tuesday to schedule the series. While Mumbai will play host to the second of the two Tests, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the first game.

The series against the West Indies happens to be a hastily arranged one that has come at the cost of BCCI cutting short India's tour to South Africa. The SA tour is scheduled to be finalised some time later this week.

Shukla, meanwhile, confirmed that Tendulkar had requested the board to allow the second Test to be played at the Wankhede, where he made his first-class debut more than 25 years ago. The Eden will host the first Test from November 6-10. As per the BCCI's policy of rotation of venues for matches played in India, Bangalore and Ahmedabad were in the queue to host these games.

The visiting West Indies team will also play three ODIs against India after the Test series with Kochi and Visakhapatnam hosting the first two matches. The venue for the third ODI is yet to be finalised.

Itinerary:

Oct 31-Nov 2: Three-day game (West Indies v UPCA at Cuttack)

Nov 6-10: First Test at Kolkata

Nov 14-18: Second Test at Mumbai

Nov 21: First ODI at Kochi

Nov 24: Second ODI at Visakhapatnam

Nov 27: Third ODI (yet to be decided).
