Shami scalps Aaron Finch in second over

NEW DELHI: Mohammad Shami justified his selection in the playing XI when he clean bowled Australian opener Aaron Finch in the second over of the fourth one-day international at JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Scorecard

Finch was looking to play an outswinger but the ball by Shami just held its line and went through the gap between bat and pad to castle the stumps.

The breakthrough came after Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl in overcast conditions.

India have replaced Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Mohammad Shami and Jaydev Unadkat.

Australia are unchanged from the last match.

After winning the toss, Dhoni reckoned rain as the reason for fielding. He also mentioned that with the overcast conditions, dew may not be there at all.

The pitch has a darkish tinge to it and will help the seamers initially. There are bits of dark clouds and swing will be available for the bowlers.

The fact that India's fortune in the series hinges on their bowling is not lost on anybody.

But pace bowling is not India's only problem. Nobody expects only the pacers to win one-dayers when you play on sub-continental pitches.

What has hurt Dhoni's team is the failure of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to pick up wickets in the middle overs. They are averaging 54.33 and 69 at the moment.

Dhoni's decision of making Suresh Raina bat at No. 4 is yet to be proved right. His discomfort with the short ball is well-known.

Yuvraj Singh has hardly spent enough time in the middle to make a significant contribution. When the top-order fails the team could be under immense pressure if Raina and Yuvraj don't click.

Dhoni cannot be expected to play the kind of innings he played in Mohali every time.

Australia's bowlers have been no better, with the exception of Mitchell Johnson. The Aussies will still feel confident because of the form their batsmen are in.

After all, their No. 8 James Faulkner won them a match they were losing till the 48th over in Mohali.

Teams:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt.), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Shami Ahmed, Vinay Kumar.

Australia: George Bailey (Capt.), Phillip Hughes, Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, Adam Voges, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Clint McKay, Xavier Doherty.
