Maxwell powers Mumbai Indians to 202

NEW DELHI: Late outburst by Glenn Maxwell and other batsmen helped Mumbai Indians post a massive 203-run target for Rajasthan Royals in the Champions League Twenty20 final at Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.

Scorecard

Mumbai made a remarkable comeback after losing the plot in the middle overs as their batsman produced brutal knocks to power Mumbai to 202/6 in 20 overs.

Maxwell played a blinder of an innings as he notched up 14-ball 37 with the help of four fours and two sixes.

It was raining sixes at Kotla as Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik all made the misery of Rajasthan bowlers. Mumbai scored 83 runs in the last five overs.

Tambe struck in his successive overs as he dismissed another set batsman Ambati Rayudu to leave Mumbai at 104/3 in 13.4 overs.

Rajasthan Royals spinner Pravin Tambe gave Mumbai Indians second blow by removing dangerous Dwayne Smith.

Mumbai Indians suffered a huge below when Rajasthan Royals pacer Shane Watson struck to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar, who played his last Twenty20 match.

Mumbai lost the momentum after losing Sachin as Smith and Ambati Rayudu were made to struggle against quality Rajasthan bowling. Smith produced another good performance with a 39-ball 44 studded with five fours and a six.

Dwayne Smith and Sachin started off well for Mumbai Indians as they added 35 runs in 4.3 overs. Sachin hammered back-to-back boundaries before being bowled by Aussie Watson.

Smith got off to mark in a tremendous manner by smashing a six over deep midwicket on the third delivery of the first over off James Faulkner.

Earlier, Rajasthan skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and decided to field against Mumbai in the summit clash.

Royals made one change as Kusal Perera has come in place of injured Brad Hodge. Glenn Maxwell replaced Mitchell Johnson in Mumbai's playing eleven.

It's not a belter of a wicket and is quite dry. There will be a little bit of moisture early on and the batsmen will have to play smartly to score runs. 150-160 should be a good total, batting first.

The final is being billed as Sachin Tendulkar vs Rahul Dravid match as both legends had announced earlier that this would be their final Twenty20 season.

The IPL champions Mumbai have the experience of playing and winning two matches at Kotla while Royals have played all their matches at home.

Mumbai and Rajasthan have played each other four times this year, and the honours have been even. Both won their home matches in IPL 6, Mumbai won the second IPL qualifier in Kolkata, and Rajasthan won the inaugural game of CLT20 2013.
