Criminal complaint against Srinivasan

MUMBAI: The Marine Drive police has started a preliminary enquiry into allegations against the BCCI chief N Srinivasan after the cops received an application in September. No FIR has been registered yet.

The president of Ganganagar District Cricket Association, in his application to the police, alleged that the accused conspired to defraud BCCI to the tune of Rs 2,882 crore.

The applicant in his complaint said that the Ganganagar District Cricket Association is a member of the Rajasthan Cricket Association which in turn is the member of the BCCI.

The complaint stated that The IPL Media Right Contracts dated March 25, 2009 stated that with the addition of two new teams the number of matches would increase per season to 94. In 2011, which was the fourth edition of IPL, two new teams were to be added to the original eight-team contest.

The complainant further said in the application that under this contract the cricket board was entitled to 150 seconds of Free Commercial Time (FCT) advertisement slots during IPL.

The complaint claims that Srinivasan along with the other accused misled the members of the governing council of IPL by misrepresenting the facts in its meeting that was held on June 25, 2010 and forced the BCCI to bend the rules and forfeit the rights solely in favour of Sony.

Due to this decision the cricket board allegedly incurred losses of Rs 2282 crore by reducing the number of matches, giving up commercial exploitation, giving up IPL entertainment rights and giving up theatrical rights.

Krishna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (south region), Mumbai, says, "We received the application in September and probe is on. No FIR has been registered yet."
