With Tendulkar deciding to call it quits, McDermott now says it was the batsman's consistency and temperament that made Sachin stand out.
Ask him about the 1992 Test series, the former Aussie quick says: "The factor that worked for Sachin was his consistency and temperament. He could bat in all conditions. None could match that," McDermott. After scoring an unbeaten 148 in Sydney, Tendulkar was unstoppable in Perth too, where he scored 114. "He was just in his twenties, he batted magnificently. Despite having a good bowling attack, we couldn't restrict him. It was a great tour for him, but that was just the beginning," McDermott, who conceded 147 runs in Sydney, admitted.
"Even Gavaskar and Dravid were technically perfect and showed consistency, but Sachin has, over the years, proven what he is capable of doing it in any situation," he said.
