A BCCI official told TOI that the announcement of West Indies' tour schedule has been delayed because the BCCI is not sure whether the South African tour is happening or not. If the tour is not on, the board would invite either Sri Lanka or Pakistan for a home series as a replacement for the South African tour.
Instead of having two meetings of the committee for the two home series, the board wants to confirm the SA series before deciding on the venue which will host Sachin Tendulkar's 200 Test against the West Indies. The tour and fixtures committee was supposed to have met in Mumbai on October 3.
"Instead of calling two meetings, the tour and fixture committee will meet once. First, we have to meet the CSA officials before commenting further," a top BCCI official said on Saturday. Sources also said that the CSA has already called up the BCCI and expressed its wish to meet at the earliest.
It has been made clear to CSA that if the series happens, the Indian team will only play two Test matches and three ODIs in South Africa.
It was also revealed that the battle for who will stage Tendulkar's 200 Test is getting intense with every passing day. With Mumbai and Kolkata already in the race, Bangalore (Karnataka Cricket Association) has also thrown its hat in the ring. "There is a lot of pressure from these three associations," a board official said.
He added that this tussle is on as such important matches are not given as per the BCCI's rotation policy.
