Bailey smashes ton as Australia cruise

NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin struck in successive overs to dismiss Shane Watson and Glenn Maxwell respectively in the sixth ODI at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur.

Scorecard

Shami gave India huge sigh of relief by dismissing Watson, who got clean bowled just after completing his ninth ODI ton that included 13 boundaries and three towering sixes.

In the next over, Ashwin was lucky enough to claim his second wicket in the form Maxwell after the Aussie mistimed his pull shot and was caught by Bhuvneshwar at the midwicket.

Australian skipper continued his red hot form with yet another fifty to pile misery on India bowlers.

Bailey scored run-a-ball fifty with the help of three fours and six. Bailey was at his lethal best as he and Watson started hammering Indian bowlers all over the park. The duo had century stand to revive Australia after the visitors lost their openers at the score 45.

Watson and Bailey continued their onslaught against the clueless Indian bowling as they took Australia past 200-run mark in 34th over.

Shane Watson finally found his form as he smashed much needed fifty to put Australia on top. Watson took 63 balls to reach his first half century of the series, hammering six fours and a six.

R Ashwin clean bowled Aaron Finch with his first delivery as Australia lost their second wicket.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India the first breakthrough when he had Phil Hughes caught by Virat Kohli at square leg.

The breakthroughs came after Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl.

India have brought in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Amit Mishra in place of R Vinay Kumar and Jaydev Unadkat.

Amit Mishra is playing his first ODI in India. All his 20 previous ODIs have been out of India.

Australia are unchanged from the last match.

Dhoni decided to play to his team's strengths which is why he will chase.

The pitch is an absolute beauty to bat on and another high-scoring game is expected. There is nothing in it for the bowlers which indicates another rough day for them. The economy rates haven't been that good and they are expected to rise further on this batting paradise.

The conditions are pretty hot and humid out and that is some respite for the players after so much rain around the other venues.

With two back to back abandoned games due to rains, the seven-match series has been reduced to a five-match series and India — trailing 1-2 — have everything to play for.

They haven't won the full ODI series against Australia at home so far. From here on, they need to pull up their socks and plug a few loopholes if they want to create history.

Teams:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt.), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami.

Australia: George Bailey (Capt.), Aaron Finch, Phil Hughes, Shane Watson, Adam Voges, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Clint McKay, Xavier Doherty.
