India A were left in a spot of bother after they slipped to 16 for 2 answering to Kiwis' 437. Unmukt Chand (4) failed to get going for the second time in the series, caught by wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder off Mark Gillespie when the team's score read six.
Vijay Zol (2), who had scripted a sensational century on debut in the last game, did not last long when he was caught by skipper Thomas Latham off Bracewell in the 13th over. From there on, Jagadeesh and Juneja held the innings together, and ensured that India A did not have to suffer any more casualties before play was called off due to bad light.
Earlier, the duo of Douglas Bracewell (96, 11x4, 1x6) and Ish Sodhi (57, 3x4) frustrated the Indians with their 162-run stand that had its share of hits and misses.
While the burly Bracewell did not shy away from wielding his willow to good use, his partner — Sodhi too put his head down and played a sedate knock. The duo not only scored at a good pace (3.75 runs per over) but more importantly delayed India's pursuit for the ninth wicket by 43.1 overs.
The Bracewell-Sodhi partnership helped the Kiwis post a total in excess of 400, which at one point looked impossible. "It was disappointing to have missed out on a hundred. I think it was a good wicket to bat on, and I went for my shots," Bracewell said at the end of the day's play.
Brief scores: New Zealand A 437 (Anton Devcich 115, Corey Anderson 100, Douglas Bracewell 96, Ish Sodhi 57; Kulkarni 3-53) vs India A 94/2 (M Juneja batting 43, VA Jagadeesh batting 40; Gillespie 1-11, Bracewell 1-23)
