Gurunath named in fixing chargesheet

NEW DELHI: Gurunath Meiyappan, Chennai Super Kings team principal and N Srinivasan's son-in-law, has been named by the Mumbai Police in the IPL betting and spot-fixing chargesheet on Saturday.

Meiyappan has been charged for session betting under Section 130 of the Bombay Police Act.

Meiyappan has also been charged for leaking essential team strategy. He is said to have bet against Chennai Super Kings in a match.

He bet that his team would lose the match, which the Super Kings eventually lost.

According to the chargesheet, Meiyappan also leaked essential information about the Chennai Super Kings batting order to Vindoo Dara Singh, who later passed on the information to bookies.

The chargesheet further claims that Vindoo was betting for both Meiyappan and himself through bookies.

Earlier in the day, BCCI president N Srinivasan sought to distance himself from Meiyappan, saying that law will take its course in the matter.

Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns the Chennai Super Kings, was forced to step aside as board president on moral grounds after Meiyappan was arrested for allegedly indulging in betting during the IPL this year.
