Former South African opener Gary Kirsten has joined Delhi Daredevils as the head coach, the IPL franchise tweeted on Tuesday. Kirsten will work with mentor TA Sekar and fellow South African Eric Simmons in the Delhi team which finished at the bottom of the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Kirsten had a successful stint with the Indian team. He helped the Men in Blue win the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and achieve the number one rankings in test. He later took over as the coach of the South Africa team and guided them to a 2-0 win over England and reached at the zenith of the Test rankings.
"The #DelhiDaredevils is delighted to welcome @Gary_Kirsten as Head Coach. He will work with Team Mentor TA Sekar and Eric Simons," the franchise tweeted. "@Gary_Kirsten says the decision to join #delhidaredevils was an easy one. It will be his first experience with an @IPL team."
