Dhawan-inspired SRH seek win streak

CHANDIGARH: After getting an opportunity to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shikhar Dhawan has taken his game a notch higher. He has made telling contributions in both qualifying matches the Sunrisers won. Against the Kandurata Maroons, Shikhar scored a whirlwind 71 which helped his team register an eight-wicket win.

In the next match against Faisalabad Wolves, Dhawan led from the front and scored 59, which once again laid the platform for a seven-wicket victory. The only match he failed was against the Otago Volts and the result was a loss for SRH.

Since he made his Test debut at the PCA stadium against the Australians earlier this year and scored 187, Shikhar's consistency has been admirable. Now, with the extra responsibility of captaining the Sunrisers, one can easily notice the drive to lead from the front. Dhawan will look to continue doing so against Trinidad and Tobago in what will be Sunrisers' first group-stage match.

Even coach Tom Moody can't stop admiring Shikhar's hunger to improve. "He has done a good job, he is going to blossom every single game he plays, and his leadership has been excellent. The positive thing about Shikhar is that whether he is captaining or batting, he constantly wants to improve," Moody said.

Pitted against Sunrisers are a consistent T&T side which has got off to a winning start in the group. The Caribbean team defeated Brisbane Heats in their opening match by 25 runs.

T&T's strength is their bowling, with the likes of Ravi Rampaul, Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree holding fort.
