DRS has been under the scanner with a spate of dubious decisions in the Ashes, and the recent dismissal of Usman Khawaja. Waugh, however, put it down to poor umpiring rather than blame the system.
"I don't know on which side of the fence I am on this (DRS) debate . But I think DRS is pretty good," Waugh said.
Being a member of the MCC World Cricket committee that recently endorsed the use of DRS in cricket, one could understand where Waugh was coming from as he further said, "I think DRS has been pretty positive. It is a good system which you can judge with good umpiring. But if the umpiring is not of top quality then it puts more pressure on DRS. It makes more right decisions than wrong, which is more positive."
A possible solution according to Waugh was to arm umpires with couple of more referrals in addition to the ones that are with teams.
"Technology can improve. But I would like to give umpires two reviews. For instance at Trent Bridge when Haddin was given out by DRS. If there were no more reviews left with England then it would have been a big controversy. I would like to give the umpires two referrals as well," he said.
