'Pissed-off' Monty Panesar in toilet worry

LONDON: England's first Sikh cricketer Monty Panesar is back in the news but for wrong reasons. The Sussex County Cricket Club has launched an investigation into allegations that Panesar urinated on bouncers who had thrown him out of a nightclub - the Shooshh club in Brighton - for misbehaving with women after being drunk. He was also fined 153 pounds for the indecent behaviour.

Panesar is not new to controversies. He was arrested by police and questioned after an alleged public argument in the car park of a Luton pub with his wife Gursharan Rattan two years ago.

"We can confirm that an incident took place involving Monty Panesar in the early hours of Monday (August 5). The matter is under full investigation and the club will make no further comment at this stage", the club said on Wednesday.

This development was confirmed by the police. "A 31-year-old man received a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly after being seen urinating in public near the Shooshh club in King's Road Arches, Brighton, around 4.13 am on Monday," a Sussex Police spokesman said.

The club's security officials had asked Monty to leave after a group of women complained that he was harassing them. Panesar then reportedly walked up to the promenade above the nightclub and urinated on the bouncers.

Panesar tried to get away after that but the bouncers caught him after a chase and brought him back to the club. The police was then called and a fine imposed.

Panesar's spokesperson said that he was willing to render an unconditional apology for any offence caused. "Monty would like to apologise unreservedly for any offence caused," the spokesman said.

The spinner was selected in the squad for the third Ashes Test at Old Trafford (Manchester) but did not play in the match which ended in a draw to secure the Ashes for England.
