Delhi court issued non-bailable warrants against three aides of Dawood Ibrahim

A Delhi court on Wednesday issued open non-bailable warrrants against eight accused in IPL spot-fixing case, and issued summons to 21 others for a hearing on September 9.

dawood The NBWs were issued against alleged bookies Sanjay Aggarwal, Mohammed Shakil Amir, Praveen Kumar, G Thakkar alias Pinto and Sandeep Sharma, and three alleged Pakistan-based aides of don Dawood Ibrahim: Javed Chutani, Salman alias Master and Ehtesham.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma said, explaining the rationale behind the NBWs against the three alleged gangsters.

“Although it is not possible to execute warrants as they are in Pakistan…, the investigating agency would be in a position to take legally coercive measures…,”.

Sreesanth summoned

Among the 21 summoned are cricketers S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan. The court will hear a plea by the Delhi Police Special Cell for cancellation of the bail they got in July. The prosecution’s argument is that the chargesheet includes stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), which do not allow for bail. Arguments are scheduled for September 9.

The decision on giving bail to eight other accused – Rajasthan Royals’s Ajit Chandila, ex-Ranji player Babu Rao Yadav, alleged bookies Ashwani Agarwal, Sunil Bhatia, Ramesh Vyas, Firoz Ansari, Deepak Kumar and Jitender Jain – had been put on hold in July. The court will hear arguments against giving them bail on August 26.

The court gave Mumbai Police custody of alleged bookie Chandresh Jain alias Jupiter, who is to be produced before a court in that city by August 23.

The Delhi Police made the arrests beginning May 16, and slapped the accused with the gangster law on June 3, saying the cricketers and alleged bookies had acted under instructions of the D-Company. Twenty-one accused were given bail on June 10. Arguments on the bail of eight others continued through July, but the order was put off after the police filed a chargesheet on July 30. The chargesheet named Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel and 37 others.
