Harmeet (20), who recorded his statement before a magistrate at a Saket court recently, said he was present in the same hotel room in mid-February.
The special cell has said it is yet to find any evidence that Watson was approached by bookies. Investigators have also given a clean chit to Harmeet, saying that though he was approached, bookies had eventually dropped the proposal.
The left-arm spinner also said he had come into contact with Chandila and another tainted cricket, Ankeet Chavan, during their Air India days. Police said that Harmeet had listened to Chandila as he was over nine years older to the spinner.
"Harmeet told us that he had signed for the erstwhile Deccan Chargers in 2010 but could not play due to his Class XII exams. In January 2013, he got a call from RR captain Rahul Dravid and was elated," said an officer.
In the same month, he got a call from Chandila as well who had asked him to come to Baba Hotel near Bandra. Chandila took him to a room where the bookies were waiting.
"Harmeet has recognized the faces of Mannan and Jeetu from photos," said S N Srivastava, special CP (special cell).
Police said Chandila had asked Harmeet to do "according to their bidding" while Jeetu just told him to play with confidence. "'We will talk then,' the bookies told Harmeet," said an officer.
Jeetu then took a call and asked Chandila if he could arrange for Watson. "Harmeet claimed that Chandila immediately refused. Jeetu then enquired if he could get another bowler to join spot-fixing.
To this, Chandila said they have Sreesanth and Chauhan," the officer said. Later, Chandila told him not to feel "too fussed about it and just chill as all of them were his friends".
The left-arm spinner claimed that since then, he had never met any of the bookies. However, he did say about frequent parties Chandila used to arrange. Harmeet said everyone could meet cricketers at hotels and RR officials didn't monitor movement of cricketers.
