Tri-series: SL openers keep India at bay

NEW DELHI: Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga gave Sri Lanka a steady start and guided the side past 50 in10.4 overs in the third ODI of the tri-series at Sabina Park in Kingston on Tuesday.

Indian bowlers failed to get any breakthrough in the first powerplay after skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl.

Kohli said it was a great honour for him to lead the India side. He was appointed skipper as MS Dhoni was ruled out due to injury.

India replaced Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Murali Vijay and Shami Ahmed.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, dropped Jeevan Mendis and Ajantha Mendis and brought in Kusal Perera and Senanayake.
