Kohli may continue against Zimbabwe

Virat Kohli's initiation into Indian captaincy hasn't been the greatest. After the narrow defeat against West Indies on Sunday, India crashed out to a 161-run loss against Sri Lanka on Tuesday and Kohli, who has been in charge following MS Dhoni's injury, hasn't been the most inspirational. His handling of bowlers against West Indies after they were seven down in chase of 230 came in for criticism while the team's decision to drop Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Tuesday was also a little strange.

It was earlier planned that Kohli would be given rest for the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting on July 23, along with Dhoni. But in the present situation, it becomes a matter of conjecture whether the right-hander would prefer to take the rest.

If Kohli doesn't go to Zimbabwe, the captaincy will invariably go to either Suresh Raina or Rohit Sharma, both capable ODI players. And if they do well as captains in Zimbabwe (which they will invariably do), it might get a little tricky for Kohli to get back his vice-captaincy later in the year.

Kohli, for a while, has been projected as India's next captain and the Delhi player, who is fiercely ambitious, might just prefer to seal the spot during the Zimbabwe series, especially after the poor performance of the team in West Indies. "I have captained in the IPL but that's Twenty20... This was totally unexpected. It was more thinking on the feet and a good experience for me," Kohli said, talking about his experience in the hot seat.
