N Srinivasan may return as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India after a two-judge probe panel reportedly found no evidence against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.
According to sources, a BCCI Working Committee will decide whether to reinstate Srinivasan as Board chief. N Srinivasan had previously told board members that the probe report would be final and binding.
The two-member internal probe panel, comprising former judges T Jayaram Chouta and R Balasubramanian, has submitted its report to the BCCI today and the same will be forwarded to the IPL Governing Council. The governing council will meet on August 2 in New Delhi, BCCI interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya told the media after the Working Committee meeting.
The report will be studied by Arun Jaitley who will brief the IPL Governing council and the Working Committee on the 2nd of August in Delhi.
Mr Srinivasan had stepped aside as the President of the BCCI till the probe into the spot-fixing scandal in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was completed. Jagmohan Dalmiya took over as interim chief for the period. Mr Srinivasan though is likely to attend the 2nd August meeting.
Mr Srinivasan’s resignation was sought as there was a conflict of interest in his being BCCI chief with his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan arrested on charges of gambling, cheating, and conspiracy. Since Mr Meiyappan too has been given a clean chit by the BCCI probe, it may have paved way for Mr Srinivasan’s return.
Mr Meiyappan, who was arrested on May 24 for allegedly taking part in illegal betting in the IPL, was granted bail on June 4.
