Srinivasan has always maintained that he is only an employee of India Cements, which owns CSK, and that all the shareholders of the company are the true owners of the franchise. In a lighter vein, Srinivasan added: "People are jealous of CSK because of Dhoni."
Srinivasan is not at the helm in BCCI at the moment, waiting for the probe panel to clear him from the spot-fixing scandal.
The citation of the memorial lecture, however, highlighted his credentials as a cricket administrator. It said, "President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the apex cricketing body in India, president of the Asian Cricket Council and chairman of the governing council of the Champions League T20, director on the executive board of the International Cricket Council (ICC)."
Srinivasan was in a cheerful mood along the course of the lecture and even though it was agreed beforehand that no cricket questions should be asked, the TN strongman was game for it.
Asked about his favourite captain, Srinivasan said: "Dhoni is an outstanding leader who leads by example. In fact, Gary Kirsten, the former Indian coach once mentioned to me that on the field, no one can equal Dhoni as a captain. He never shows his emotions and is an intelligent cricketer and a simple man."
