He was one of the key figures for India in the Test series against Australia and after a successful IPL, he is making it count in the Champions Trophy as well. His 5-35 against West Indies was key to India restricting the Caribbeans to 233-9 in their 50 overs.
But Jadeja's success has a lot to do with the way his skipper Dhoni uses him. During the Australia series, he started coming at No 6 in Tests to guard Jadeja and when asked about it in the press conference, said: "As long as Jadeja is playing I will bat at No 6."
It showed Dhoni's tremendous belief in the left-handed allrounder's abilities, and right through the IPL, Captain Cool kept using Jadeja intelligently, giving him all the confidence in the world. "It's great to know that your captain has faith in you...I am enjoying every bit of it," Jadeja said.
Still, in seamer-friendly conditions of England, Jadeja wouldn't have been an automatic choice, but Dhoni stuck to his guns. The allrounder was there in the squad, and MSD is now playing him ahead of the other specialist allrounder Irfan Pathan. And Jadeja is doing enough to prove that his skipper's faith is not misplaced.
