Rio de Janeiro, July 1: Five-time world champions Brazil decimated current world and European champions Spain 3-0 in the Confederations Cup football tournament final on Sunday, ending the European rivals' record of remaining unbeaten in record 29 matches.
Fred scored two of the goals, one in each half, while Neymar scored one in between to put the match beyond Spain's reach.
It was Brazil's third consecutive Confederations Cup title (fourth in total) and the fifth straight win in this year's competition. Fred finished his tally in the tournament with five goals. His early strike had clearly rattled the world champions, who looked jaded after their exhausting semi-final shoot-out against Italy.
It was a clearly not Spain's day with Sergio Ramos missing a penalty early in the second half and Gerard Pique was sent off for a thrust on Neymar, his teammate at Barcelona, after 68 minutes.
The Maracana crowd taunted Spain with "the giant is back" as Brazil humbled Vicente del Bosque's team, whose last competitive loss was against Switzerland at the FIFA World Cup, held four years back.
Brazil will host next year's FIFA World Cup, first time since 1950.
