"There is no controversy," he said in a terse reply to a query from TOI on the controversy in IPL and his name being dragged in the betting racket. Before more questions could be posed, Gurunath Meiyappan hurriedly went inside the airport to leave for Mumbai.
Accompanied by two unidentified men, Gurunath left for Mumbai in a chartered flight at 5.25 pm, said airport authorities.
Gurunath Meiyappan was in Kodaikanal for the past three days in a guest house at Coakers' Walk along with his father-in-law. He had left the hill station around 1.30 pm in a car and arrived at Madurai airport around 5.5 pm.
"The private flight had obtained permission for departure from 5 pm to 5.30 pm. It departed by 5.25," said an airport officer.
A battery of reporters and lensmen were waiting at the entry point to the lounge from 2 pm as Gurunath was expected to arrive there anytime and take a flight to be able to present himself to Mumbai police before the 5 pm deadline. But Gurunath managed to give a slip to the media.
While the media was expecting him to arrive in a car and were looking for him whenever any car arrived at the airport, Gurunath, clad in blue denims and dark blue shirt, finally got down from his car farther away and chose to walk till the entry gate. The reporters managed to identify him only when he was about to enter the lounge.
