van der Merwe inflicted third blow to Chennai in the 11th over at the score of 74 by getting Raina (7) caught by skipper David warner at extra cover.
Delhi got their first breakthrough in the eighth over by getting Murali Vijay (31) run out at the score of 61.
A direct throw by Ben Rohrer ended Vijay's challenge. The opener's speedy 23-ball knock was studded with three boundaries and a six.
Hussey was then caught by Virender Sehwag off Umesh Yadav at fine leg after a decent 26 in as many balls .
Vijay and Mike Hussey guided Chennai Super Kings past 50 in six overs after hosts elected to bat at Chepauk.
Chennai, earlier, got off to a cautious start as they were 11 runs after three overs. However, the openers soon accelerated the scoring rate and got side's first 50 runs in 38 balls.
Chennai have made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Albie Morkel in place of Chris Morris.
Roelof van der Merwe has come in place of Mahela Jayawardene for Delhi Daredevils.
