Mumbai Police reach CSK CEO's house

CHENNAI: A four-member team of the Mumbai crime branch police have reached the residence of Chennai Super Kings principal Gurunath Meiyappan, whose name has cropped up in the IPL spot fixing scam. Meiyappan is the son-in-law of CSK owner and BCCI president N Srinivasan.

Initially, a three-member team of Mumbai Police, assisted by four members of the Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch police arrived at Meiyappan's house off the posh Cenotaph Road in Chennai around 2.15pm. They were made to wait outside the gate for more than 20 minutes before they were let in by security guards. About 10 minutes later, a senior officer of Mumbai Police joined them.

TOI was the first to report on Wednesday about the Mumbai Police investigating the role of "a close relative of a powerful IPL franchise owner who wields enormous clout in the world of cricket." On Wednesday, Meyappan's name was flashed all over media after Mumbai police officers divulged that they were probing the connection between the CSK team principal and actor Vindu Dara Singh, who was arrested on Tuesday for his connections with the betting syndicate.

At 2.50pm, the police officials were still inside Meiyappan's house. Following reports of the Mumbai police team having landed in the city, reporters have been thronging the residences of Meiyappan on Cenotaph Road and that of his father-in-law Srinivasan on the nearby Boat Club Road.
