IPL removes Fair Play table from website

NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has removed the Fair Play points-table from its website since the two top teams -- Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- are embroiled in the spot-fixing scandal.

The spot-fixing scandal started unravelling May 16 with the arrest of three Rajasthan Royal players Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and India fast bowler S Sreesanth by Delhi Police.

The arrest thereafter of Chennai Super Kings' chief executive Gurunath Meiyappan, who also is the son-in-law of Indian cricket board president N Srinivasan, by Mumbai police on Friday prompted IPL to remove the Fair Play points-table from its website.

Meiyappan was arrested by Mumbai Police after interrogating Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh, who was seen in the VIP boxes during Super Kings matches.

The Fair Play Award is given in each edition of the IPL to the team with the best fair play record.

The winner is decided on the basis of points given to the teams by the umpires. Pune Warriors, who finished eighth, were the third-placed team in the points table.
