The duo shared 48-run stand for the fifth wicket before Bravo bowled out Rayudu after his fighting knock of 36 balls.
Earlier, pacer gave Chennai Super Kings control as Mumbai Indians lost four wickets inside 60 runs in ten overs after electing to bat.
Mohit Sharma gave Chennai Super Kings early breakthrough by dismissing in the first over. Sharma trapped Smith leg before after being hit for a four by the batsman in the previous delivery.
In the next over, Albie Morkel bowled out Aditya Tare without allowing him to get off the mark.
Morkel struck again in the fourth over, taking a stunning return catch of skipper Rohit Sharma.
Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu tried to rescue the side with their steady show. The duo took the score past 50 in the ninth over.
