ICC withdraws Pak umpire Asad Rauf

NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council on Thursday withdrew umpire Asard Rauf from the Champions Trophy, to be played next month, after his name was linked in spot-fixing probe.

According to Times Now, the decision by the ICC was taken after media reports indicated Rauf was being probed in the spot-fixing scandal.

Rauf is likely to be summoned by Mumbai police for questioning. Sources said that Rauf was in regular touch with Vindu Dara Singh and had received various gifts from the bookies.

The Pakistani was one of the umpires in the controversial match in which the three arrested Rajasthan Royals- S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan-allegedly indulged in spot-fixing.

The crime branch is probing the activities of the umpire in all the matches he was part of and keeping his movements under watch. The umpire had a brush with controversy a few months back, after a city-based model alleged that he had raped her. She later withdrew the complaint.
