Speaking to TOI from Pune, Shirke said, "(Under the current dispensation), the BCCI has called for innumerable emergency meetings to deal with even minor things.
The same president called for many emergency meetings to resolve crises involving Deccan Chargers, Sahara Pune Warriors and even over bank guarantees. A meeting was called when three Rajasthan Royals players were arrested too.
"Why can't an emergency meeting be called now when there's such a serious situation at hand," Shirke asked. He also added that if his own son-in-law had been arrested, he would have resigned with immediate effect.
"I've already said that. I don't know about other board officials but I do believe that if they care for their reputation, they'll also think the way I am doing. Otherwise, go through the trial by the media," he said.
He also said that had he been in Srinivasan's position, he'd have vacated the chair at least till the inquiry was on. "The credibility of the board is at stake.
There is a perception that the board hasn't been operating in the manner that it should have been and that needs to be put to rest," Shirke said, mincing no words that it was the moral responsibility of the board to act now.
"The president's reputation is in question because of some serious issues that have been raised. He has to explain."
The board treasurer said that the present situation is evolving and therefore he will have to wait and see how things go. "However, if the board members continue to ignore this, I shall not simply consider resigning.
I'll go ahead and do it," he said. He added that putting in his papers so abruptly would not mean running away from his responsibilities. "I will never do that, but I simply cannot let my reputation be tarnished.
That stands above anything else," he said. "I cannot be a bystander, watching all this happen and allow my reputation also to be questioned. I will quit if things are not quickly resolved," he said. Shirke wants Srinivasan to immediately call for an emergency meeting.
