CHENNAI: Amit Mishra has been the best spinner of the ongoing T20 tournament. The leggie, who has been in and around the Indian squad for a while, has got 16 wickets in the tournament so far with a strike rate of 13.8 and an economy of 6.40.
And now, with the Indian team for the Champions Trophy to be selected on Saturday, the leg-spinner stands a good chance of making the cut.
"I am just looking to perform in the tournament I am playing now. But if I get a chance for India, I will be happy," the Sunrisers leg-spinner said.
He played a big role in the success of Sunrisers in the tournament so far, with a hat-trick against Pune Warriors.
Mishra has won quite a few man of the match awards as well that has brought him into contention.
But the conditions in England are not always conducive for spin bowling and that is one thing that might just go against him.
It's certain that R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, both Chennai Super Kings players, will be part of the squad and Mishra will sneak in if the selectors decide to include a third spinner in the line-up.
Skipper MS Dhoni's vote, too, will become crucial and it's to be seen if the Indian captain decides to add a bit of depth to the spin department.
