Come Tuesday, when RCB hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad in their return leg at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Kumar Sangakkara-led side may have to do double the planning to deal with the hosts' batting order, which is set to wear a formidable look with the arrival of the dashing wicket-keeper-batsman AB de Villiers.
De Villiers may have missed RCB's first two outings but the South African, having played for Titans in a losing cause in the South African domestic T20 league on Sunday, is certainly not short of match preparedness.
If RCB sources are to be believed, De Villiers, who is expected to land on Tuesday morning, is likely to replace KB Arun Karthik behind the wickets.
His inclusion will bolster a middle-order that has been found wanting in the last two outings and ease the pressure on Gayle and skipper Virat Kohli.
Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan's poor run has only added to RCB's woes. It might be tempting for Kohli to retain all-rounder Moises Henriques for Tuesday's contest.
The Australian, who made his RCB debut on Sunday, grabbed the opportunity with both hands with a stellar show with both bat and ball. His 40-ball 44 provided stability following a middle-order collapse against Hyderabad on Sunday.
He proved he could be as lethal with the ball as he claimed two wickets for a miserly 14 runs in his three overs. It will be interesting who De Villiers will come in for in the playing XI.
In the pace department, Jaydev Unadkat and R Vinay Kumar, barring the Super Over hiccup, have been impressive and will look once again to make an impact in familiar conditions at home.
As for the visitors, they may be brimming with confidence after snatching a thrilling Super Over victory, but they have plenty of issues to address themselves, especially their batting.
